Being a South Mississippi resident for nearly 15 years, having had 4 children graduate from Oak Grove High, and being a fan of Brett Favre and respecting what he has done in the NFL and his involvement with the Oak Grove Warrior football team, I certainly have some interest in what Brett decides to do.  Add to that, being born and raised in Minnesota, and being a lifelong Vikings fan, you can imagine my interest in what Brett does, and in particular, will he return to the Vikings this year.

I have struggled for years as the Vikings put together team after team of what looked to be potential Super Bowl capable players, only to see the same results.  No Championship.  I joke with people and tell them I have been a Vikings fan my entire life, but have only been able to publically admit it just a few of those 46 years.  Last year was certainly one of them.  I actually admit it every year; just some years are more embarrassing than others.  I can tell you there are many Minnesota residents that want to see him come back.  I know it is the topic of many discussions at the American Legion in Moorhead Minnesota.  Drop in sometime and ask to speak to John Carney, he can tell you about it.  He called me many times last year wanting to know if I heard anything.  What was Brett going to do?  It was all based on the interest and conversations happening at the Legion.  The people of Minnesota want Brett to play, and if Brett wants to play, that is all that matters.

I have watched the Vikings play against Brett and the Packers year after year.  Some successfully, some not so successfully.  I hated seeing Brett and the Packers success versus the Vikings, and loved seeing the Vikings success versus Brett the Packers.  But most of all, I enjoyed the game.  Whether being up 20 or down 20 you knew you were going to get everything Brett had.  You could, and can still tell he loves the game.

So what's the issue with some of these sports writers?  I recall seeing one report the other day where the writer, I forget his name, clearly stated (repetitivley) he is done with Brett.  Really?  Should we care what or who he is done with?  Just because he is done doesn't mean the story goes away, or Brett for that matter.  Why, does Brett taking his time to decide, spin them up so much?  After all, Brett is creating an opportunity for them to write about it, report on it, and oh by the way, generate a little income off of it.  Seems like a win win to me.  They should be more worried about what they will do if he doesn't come back.

I don't know Brett.  Never met him.  Maybe I will someday, maybe I won't.  All that matters is that he loves the game of football, puts everything he has into it, and he plays for the Vikings.  Yes, he draws some attention to himself in the process. So what.  He's entitled.  He's 40 and playing in the NFL.  I don't know too many guys who wouldn't like to be in that position.

Go Vikes!
